The first report on Energy Efficiency in Buildings (EEB) project under the auspices of The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (released in 2010) presented a picture of this challenge of energy use in buildings and a high level-level approach to addressing this challenge. The entire report can be found here. Their findings and discussions clearly reinforced the intriguing yet a continuation of the issues that continue to be barriers for change within the Commercial Real Estate Market.

While some senior management and owners seek to find costs savings and to be seen as some enlightened developers and owners embracing energy conservation and sustainability a vast majority of others including purchasing agents, suppliers, consultants, service delivery agents and architects were still focused on the status quo.

Most standalone technology systems, installed in buildings today are underutilized because they do not create a flow of information from one vendors’ system to another. This represents a unique opportunity for the building operators and owners, to better utilize their systems investments. However the building market is diverse and very complex. The commercial relationships between the many specialist involved are intricate and critical is sparking action on energy efficiency, system integration as so forth.
